In August 2026, Swiss flight-training technology company Loft Dynamics announced that Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (Kawasaki) will become the first organization in Asia-Pacific to deploy its newly released H145 Multi-Pilot VR Simulator, bringing immersive, multi-crew H145 virtual-reality training to the region for the first time. According to the company's press release distributed by industry publication Vertical Magazine, the simulator will be installed at the Kawasaki Training Center in Gifu — one of the world's leading H145/BK117 training centers. Notably, Kawasaki's investment comes just weeks after the commercial launch of the H145 Multi-Pilot VR Simulator, signaling the platform's rapid expansion from Europe into Asia-Pacific.

1. The Details: Training Directly Targets EMS Air Medical Crews

The press release states that Kawasaki will use the simulator to support initial type ratings, instrument training, multi-crew cooperation, recurrent training and checking for operators in emergency medical services (EMS), law enforcement, disaster response and other mission-critical sectors. Kawasaki itself has deep roots in the H145 story: for nearly five decades, the company has contributed to the development, manufacturing and support of the Airbus BK117/H145 family, and as an Airbus Helicopters-approved training center it provides H145 training to operators across Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Hitoshi Kawaguchi, head of the BK117/H145 Program at Kawasaki, said that by combining immersive multi-crew training with OEM-provided aircraft data, the simulator gives pilots more opportunities to build proficiency, prepare for complex missions, and train using the same procedures they use in the aircraft.

First, dangerous scenarios can finally be trained safely, and repeatedly. Air medical missions routinely involve night flying, low visibility and demanding approaches in complex terrain.
